Professor Abiodun Adebayo, Vice-Chancellor of Covenant University, has challenged Ota youths to inspire others with the information and skills they have gained via the Ota Youth Empowerment Digital Training.
He spoke at the end of a three-week training program organized by the University’s Community Development Impact Initiative Committee (CUCDIIC) in collaboration with Cisco Networking Academy.
The Vice-Chancellor advised the graduates to make use of the platform’s chance to start small but develop on it.
He expressed gratitude to the CISCO Networking Academy, the Community Development Impact Initiative Committee (CDIIC), and other sponsors and partners who assisted in the program’s establishment, and hoped that the trip would finish in greater accomplishments.
The Olota of Ota, HRH, Oba Abdulkabir Obalanlege, challenged the training program’s participants to put their newfound knowledge to use, even if they had to volunteer to do so.
He praised the University for its enormous contribution to the growth of the Ota Community, offering to hire one of the Cinematography program recipients.
Mr. Toyin Olatayo, Managing Director of Unites Cisco, stated that his organization was involved in the training because of a passion for human development.
“All participants are now leaving the program as confident, creative creators of new technologies rather than just users,” he said. They will also comprehend the social implications of these technology.”
The Chairperson, CUCDIIC Professor Tayo George, who created the program, also spoke, emphasizing the importance of digital education to society.
“We recognize the importance of digital education in our society today, and it is one of the things we do at the university,” she said. And we make every effort to reach out to our host community with meaningful programs, and this is one of them.”
Not fewer than 150 Ota adolescents were given digital skills such as cinematography, cyber security, Internet of Things (IoT), IT Essentials, phone repairs, graphics, Python, solar panel, and web design.
Some of the participants that stood out were recognized with awards. Omotola Sunday Akinyeoluwa received the Changemaker Award, while Smart Beyioku and Ireoluwatonde Fasanu received Future Leader Awards.
